What is MAGIC ? - M A G I C is a utility that will read virtually any ASCII Text file, even if it does not have consistent column alignment. (Look at our actual examples above). It will ''parse'' to the best of it's ability for single or multiple frequencies in a line of text, separate the frequencies from the text, and create individual fields including a mode, increment, and the text and then create a record ''on the fly''. It will create one record per frequency, If there is more than one frequency on a line it will create an individual record for each one, and include the text on that line in two text fields consisting of a 15 character description and 70 character comment.

In addition to writing "Plain Text", “ M A G I C will read AND write directly the following formats:

While you are on line, just grab a file off a web page, save it to a diskfile, pop it into Magic and in nothing flat, you’ll have a neatly organized file that you can load into your favorite scanner or scanner software. Take all those ‘text files’ you’re saving on the Hard Drive, load them into Magic and faster than you reach for a sip of coffee, its done.

The beauty of it is... it’s so simple. No aligning columns no “pre” editing, no real ‘’thinking’’, just load and convert. It works like MAGIC! But if you want it, there are plenty of “programmable features” to spare!

Magic doesn’t require a lot of overhead. Any PC compatible computer running Windows 3.1 or greater, with at least 4 meg of RAM (8 recommended) and a hard drive with 4 Meg free space.

But if you want to convert those really big files, M A G I C can hold up to 10,000 lines (or records) at a maximum line length of 500 characters per line. This computes to a file size of a whopping 5 Megabytes.

Magic is so simple and ‘accurate’ that 99% of the time you’ll never need all of our ''progammable options'', but the power is there if you need it!

• Keyword Search - typing a letter or a combination of letters will engage an automatic word search through the viewer’s contents. As the letters are entered, the ‘window title bar’ will reflect the ‘word’ being searched. Pressing Enter, will progressively search for the keyed in word. The line will change color to show each found occurrence.

• Boundaries - Enables a user programmable ‘global deletion’ of text ,based on a left and right boundary, for each line in the source file. Anything within the ‘boundary’ will be ignored.

• Plus “Programmable Options -
  1. Removal or replacement of selected text or characters
  2. Insertion of a keyword into each record as created for future ‘searching”

• Print Viewer to a File - Send to a printer the present ‘viewer contents’. Pages are automatically Paginated.

• View Source or Target files “on line”- M A G I C permits you to view the actual source or ‘target’ file in the viewer. Once a conversion has been made, you can then view the actual target file in the viewer to check on how well the conversion went. The files are even “formatted” on the screen in columns if they are other than text based files.

• On Line F1 Help - Load our text based “MAGICHLP.TXT” into the viewer. Even use embedded ‘examples’ for a “test run”.
  
• Plus if you need “quick help”, watch the 'help', at bottom of the screen, for each of the controls, as your mouse moves over the controls.

• Built in “Parsing” Features

• “Default Features’ are built into the Parsing Engine.
  We remove most "offending" punctuation ( All are substituted with an appropriate number of spaces ) - We could probably delete some 'more' common punctuation, but this is what we have ''built in'', using the ones we've come across that cause the 'most problems'. That is why we give you the programmable text/character "remover", and a Boundary Deletion.

• User Programmable Parsing
  You can program up to 100 'custom' words or characters by using this option. If you need help, watch the 'help', at bottom of the screen, for each of the controls, as your mouse moves over that control. These options permit ‘fine tuning’ your conversion so that unwanted characters, words and areas can be automatically removed.

• Boundaries - An area can be designated for removal within each line of text. By setting “boundaries”, anything within that boundary will be removed before any other conversion process is performed.

• Character Removal and replacements
  Choose to either REMOVE or REPLACE up to 100 ‘programmable characters or words. Really fine tune it !
