I presume you do not have the printed manual yet, so you can look through the PDF manual or when you DO get it, take a look at pages:
        21, 71, 79, 82 to 90

The PDF manual should also come in handy and you only need to print out these selected pages.

+++++++++++ Basic hints and tips
+++++++++++ Problems with transferring files from 8600 to computer
+++++++++++ Problems with making up a memory bank (use small files)

- Hint - I would suggest only using 1 small single "database file" per bank.

Go to MAIN "Splash screen" (Main Menu)
CLick on top menu option "FILES"
  Pick Load New File
     And choose a file name
IF you pick a name that does not exist
this will "create a new file", with that name'
But will not have any records
FOR TEST Purposes use "BANK1.FRQ" (Note FRQ extension)
  Once at the Database Screen
To add a record, Click on one of the buttons
at bottom of database titled "Add Record"
This will at a new "record/channel" with all 0000's in frequency
Edit the 000's to be a real frequency. And then move to description
column and put in description that will be in radio's memory channel
To add ANOTHER record, Click the button
at bottom of database titled "Add Record"
until you have a many as you want in that "bank".

SAVE the File.
I would suggest you create ONE file for EACH bank in the RAdio
This way you can easily organize them and not have to look down
several hundred records for the individual bank.
                so....
CLick on top menu option "FILE"
  Pick "Load New File"
And choose a NEW file name
IF you pick a name that does not exist
this will "create a new file", with that name'
But will not have any records
FOR TEST Purposes use "BANK2.FRQ" (Note FRQ extension)

  Add records till "full",
  SAVE the file

CLick on top menu option "FILE"
  Pick "Load New File"
And choose a NEW file name
IF you pick a name that does not exist
this will "create a new file", with that name'
But will not have any records
FOR TEST Purposes use "BANK3.FRQ" (Note FRQ extension)

        And so on

Once you have the files created, then

Go to Main Splash Screen and choose
        > Radio Memory Management
             > Load Radio

FIRST pick a diskfile from one you have created
When the database appears, you can close the screen
by Choosing "EXIT" (NOT "just quit)

Once the file is picked, Choose "Begin Loading"

The MENU that pops up shows what numerical to start
with depending on the bank you want to program to.

A similar MENU pops up shows what numerical to END with
depending on the bank you want to program to.

Once you have accepted both start and end,
the screen will start to show your progress
as it sends the info to the radio

This should be enough to get you started, and if not, give me a specific question and I'll try to answer.
