The RSD files are actually created for RADIO Shack, and their original intent was to provide a fixed database for each of their stores, "By County". Most only have 20-30 frequencies per bank as that is how RS wants it to be (fits all 200 ch radios as well as 1000 ch units.

Then we decided to include them as a "bonus" as part of our packages.

They are updated regularly, but since they are custom designed, it takes a lot longer for a complete update as compared to doing a master database such as the FCC "All states" data CD's. The Master CD's are updated every 6 months or so... and come from FCC data that is bulk purchased from the "gov".

So while RSD files serve as a nice starter template, they should not be considered as the sole source of information. If you were to take a vacation, they would be a nice quick way of putting something into the scanner for your trip, without a lot of arduous research.

Jim,

I got the RSD frequencies loaded on the Scan-Cat-Lite database tonight.  It was not too difficult!  I had 1 question.  How old are the RSD frequencies that  are loaded into the Scan-Cat-Lite program CD's I received last week. How often are these frequencies updated on the CD's you send out to customers?

Thank you!

JH
