MR.SCANNER OR COMBO CD WONT AUTORUN / INSTALL WITH WINDOWS VISTA

We have had a small number of reports from VISTA users that our COMBO CD will not "Autorun" when it is placed into the CD drive. This is a Known VISTA "Bug".

* In some cases it just doesn't want to "run"
* In some cases there is a prompt that gives you several options
ONE of the options is to "View contents of Drive/Folder"

* IF you choose to run the autorun, sometimes a message 300 or error message 333 will pop up. This is due to the new "Security/Administrator" restrictions on Vista that were not implemented on XP.

SOLUTION # 1. This is usually a very easy fix for this problem.
        * Choose the Option to VIEW the CONTENTS of the "Drive/folders"
        * Locate these files - they are usually in alphabetical order.
INSTALL #1 AND #2 Files (in order) to place the software on your HHD
                1 - Setup_Scancat-Lite-Plus.exe
                     Installs Scancat-Lite-Plus to your Harddrive
                2 - Setup_RSD-DatabaseFiles.exe
Installs Nat-COm's RSD Personal Database filea
into the Scancat folder on your Harddrive
                3 - MSPSF.exe
This is the Search Engine program for Mr. Scanner's FCC Database

SOLUTION # 2.
        * Manually explore the CD-ROM and find the Autorun.exe file.
(See below on how to find and locate that file on the CD)

        * Right click on the file and select "Run as Administrator."
Vista will ask you to cancel or allow the program to run.

        * Select Allow and your program will run as it should.

If it runs, you will be able to use the MENU to install
       and use the CD's contents.

SOLUTION # 3. (A more complicated, but also more permanent solution)

The "autorun.exe" program is an Installation Menu. It has several options to install Scancat-Lite-Plus and the RSD frequency file Database onto your hard drive.

While the AUTORUN is menu driven, it is not necessary to install these products. This is a work around to install Scancat and the Frequency files without using the installation (Autorun) menu.

This is the link to a screen shot of the CD FOLDER

You will notice there are 4 files that are highlighted
The installation programs you want to use are
1 - Setup_Scancat-Lite-Plus.exe
     Installs Scancat-Lite-Plus to your Harddrive
2 - Setup_RSD-DatabaseFiles.exe
Installs Nat-COm's RSD Personal Database filea
into the Scancat folder on your Harddrive
3 - MSPSF.exe
The Search Engine program for Mr. Scanner's FCC Database

4 - Autorun.exe

You can find these programs by going to
        START
            > RUN
                > then type CD letter followed by the Column
                    IE:    D:

Then find the above files and run them in the order of above to install SCL and the RSD files etc.

If you cannot find "RUN" on your Start Menu, Then you can go their "Customize Start Menu" and check the box for "RUN".  Then when you click on START, the "run" option will be present.

Here are screen shots of the customize menu

                        and The main Taskbar

                Use the "START MENU" tab

You can access the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box in Windows Vista using the same methods that you do in Windows XP. Right-click on the Start button or the Taskbar and select the Properties command.
