Hi

Windows Vista may not register some controls, especially if they are installed in the c:\windows\System32 folder. If you have an older version of Scancat-Lite-Plus (SCL) the install program is not designed to accommodate Vista's requirements. "C:\windows\System32"  has been the default location for all windows versions... up until VISTA,  Due to the "New" way Vista has setup Administration privileges... and security..... In many case you must invoke the administrator privileges to register "stubborn" dll controls and active-x control.

We feel Our approach is the least invasive and still preserves the "needed" security on your computer. To keep it simple, we have put together an Installation Patch program. This patch will register all the necessary controls with Window's Vista. And does not require in most cases you disable the administrator settings.

Click on this link to download the patch.

AND - - - This patch will work for any "legacy" version of SCL as far  back as it's inception in 2001. However that alone may not fix it. About 1% of the time, if it still won't start up, you may have to right click on the Scancat-Lite-Plus icon and go to properties and then place a check in the box next to "Run as Administrator".

This has resolved almost all issues.

            **********  Please Note ***********

IF you have installed Vista on a computer that used to have Windows XP. You may not have enough working RAM. Our listed "Minimum memory requirements" for Scancat-Lite-Plus has always been 512MB or better. It appears Vista uses a lot more RAM, and unless you have more than 512MB of RAM (Suggested 2024MB or 2 GIG) when running Vista - With less RAM - you may experience problems. Screens may not appear completely or when choosing "Program Radio" from the main Splash Screen, it may not appear.

IF you have 1-2 Gig of  RAM and continue to have a Low Memory warnings....

- RIGHT CLICK on the Shorcut ICON on your Desktop. (Scancat-Lite-Plus)

- Choose to "Run As Administrator". That may cure your memory problem.

If you have a number of other programs running, try shutting some of them down until you can then get to the "Program Radio" screen. Depending on the radio you have, the "database grids" can consume a lot of extra "ram/memory".

ONE way of shutting them down is to PRESS CTRL + ALT + DEL - This pops up a window for looking at what is running on your computer.

The "Performance TAB of this window has a graphic representation of your RAM usage
 - At the Bottom is the Total RAM you have installed, and the amount you have available.

The Running Processes TAB shows everything that is running on your computer.
These program fall into three groups (User Name column)
        - PERSONAL  Applications (these are what you want to look at)
In the User Column, these usually have "computer name" as the "user name"
        - SYSTEM Processes (Caution is advised  - Virus Programs are this type)
        - LOCAL Processes (usually should not quit these) Unless you know what they are.
Many are drivers for devices such as:
Printers, PDAs, Cameras, Flash Drives or similar device oriented programs running in the Background
        - NETWORK Processes (your internet and local area network Do Not quit these)

I would suggest you click on the "Memory Usage" to SORT by the "Users" column so that one you may want to get rid of  are at the TOP. Then you can highlight one and use the "End Task" button to quit a suspect application.  Do this one program at a time, go back to SCL and see if the screens show. Eventually you will find the ones that use the most RAM and permit operation of SCL.  One you find the culprit, You can also use MSCONFIG to permanently disable a program from running on boot up.

Then (a mild suggestion) purchase  1 or 2 GIG of memory for your computer.  <GGG>

http://www.newegg.com sells 1 Gig  of RAM Memory for about $45-60.00

Best regards

Jim
